--Not Open to Finance, Real Estate and Law Concentration-- |
|
Every
profession, business, government unit, engineering, social
or entertainment group has at one time or another a definite
obligation to perform a service or produce an end physical
product. These same entities may also have the obligation
to purchase, procure, or acquire similar offerings from
those persons or firms within our free enterprise system.
These obligations are executed through a document identified
as a "contract," which may range from a simple oral understanding
to an involved document consisting of several thousand
pages. The person who sees to the execution or the completion
of this contract is a contract manager. Defense and aerospace
firms, athletes and entertainers, labor unions, health
care professionals and all aspects of business are involved
in these contract activities. All aspects of contract
management are covered in this minor. Simply put, contracts
affect and are the "game rules" of every business venture.
Therefore, the knowledge of how a contract is created
and the ability to understand and effectively negotiate
its terms is crucial in today's business environment.
Such knowledge can be a deciding factor between a successful
business venture and a failure. In addition, the study
of contracts provides an excellent foundation for students
pursuing a legal career.
Both business and non-business students can increase their
knowledge and marketability in the job market by obtaining
a minor in the CONTRACT MANAGEMENT. Also, many students
have been able to obtain paid internships and full time
employment as a result of completing the MINOR IN CONTRACT
MANAGEMENT.
These courses are part of a new trend to professionalism
in the procurement, supply management and acquisition
field. Any student in any school can master the special
know-how of this minor. |
